Because it is, by nature, a resource-based region, Abitibi-Témiscamingue and especially Val-d’Or enjoy substantial support from all three levels of government (municipal, provincial, and federal), as it relates to economic-development financial incentives.

In its last provincial budget, the Government of Québec announced an infusion of some 132 million dollars into Abitibi-Témiscamingue, within the framework of a development-strategy for all of Québec’s resource-based regions. On the federal government’s side, the Canadian government has its own share of good news: a 15% tax credit, investment for credit activities having a net tax return, and the 100% deductible announced by Ottawa in the autumn of 2000.
